Abstract

The current need of professionalization and internationalization of open access publications in Latin America installs the demand for outsourced services among publishers -which are mostly universities. This study identifies the main characteristics of the companies that provide publishing services, which are based in seven countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru). The results suggest that we still have a long way to study how the scholarly publishing community is constituted in Latin America and what should be the role of service providers to achieve the goals of open access policies.
